My grandson's first black bear.  He was shooting a 30-06 with managed
recoil rounds.  I cut the stock down for him and have been doing a lot
of bench shooting with him, and it payed off pretty well.  First shot was at
about 150 yds.  Knocked him down, but he got up and ran into the alders.
We went in and found him and the second shot at about 75 yds put him down for good.

The hide squared out at 6'4".   Here it is fleshed and salted.

We salvaged all the meat and I saved the fat and bones for wolf bait next winter.

Tell him congratulations for me.  Great job!  I love taking kids along when hunting, fishing or trapping.  Their enthusiasm is always contagious.  Smiley

Spek, throw those pics up under our hunting photo pics also..Too good not to have there.  You should post that trail cam pic of your grizz there also.  It's still a hunting pic.  I love that picture..sent it to my mom in Texas.

Got it Jon,  even put up an extra.  The brownies sure love hanging out
there at the cabin in the spring.  They sometimes lay there against the wall
sunning themselves for hours.
