-Mike Buirge discussed the Mat-Su F&G advisory board upcoming elections – a total of 7 seats up for grabs.

He strongly suggested that all members attend and vote at the next meeting which is 7 pm Jan 22 at the Borough Assembly Chambers in Palmer.  Mike emailed information which was passed on via email.  If you did not receive the email please contact Jamie @ alaskafrontiertrappersassoc@gmail.com to confirm your email address or have it added to the list.

-Unit 16 Bear-snaring class will be the presentation at the May 6th meeting and will be conducted by Chris Brockman from ADF&G.  This will qualify you for the classroom portion and you will have to contact ADF&G to complete the field portion of the test.

-Animal Care and Regulation Board has passed a proposal (Title 24 revisions) to the Borough Assembly to BAN TRAPPING IN THE MAT-SU BOROUGH (Within 100 yards of either side of the right of way of any borough road), as well as within 50 yards either side of any trail in the Borough.  The proposed revision also contradicts state trespass law.

You can search for it on the Mat-Su Borough website – Title 24, sub section 105, page 26

They have passed this despite public testimony in opposition and against the advice of the Borough's legal department.  It is now moving to a committee, then an Assembly member needs to adopt it and it will go up for vote.  Please contact the Assembly members to speak against this proposal and if possible, plan to attend the Borough Assembly meeting to provide public testimony in opposition.  Next meeting is Jan. 21

-Rick Ellis moved to have AFTA President, Steve Schafer,  write a letter from the AFTA to the Assembly in opposition to this portion of the Title 24 revision.  John Cyr seconded.  Motion passed unanimously.

-Governor's Sportsman of the Year Award - nominations deadline is Jan 31.  Steve Schafer moved to nominate Kenny Barber.  Seconded by Rick Ellis.  Motion passed unanimously.  Steve Schafer will write a letter to nominate Kenny.  Award to be presented to the recipient on Feb 21 at the Safari Club banquet.

-AOC Affiliate Membership is up – 50.00 – approved to renew

-Received a letter from Fur Takers requesting Donation – Jim Spaulding moved to have AFTA donate a life membership.  Seconded by Rick Ellis.  During discussion, John Cyr suggested making it two Life memberships.  Rick Ellis volunteered to sponsor the purchase of patches and decals to be included with the Life membership certificates.  Jim Spaulding ammended his original motion to make it 2 life memberships.  Amended motion passed unanimously.
